The main technical parameters of tower cranes include maximum lifting capacity, end lifting load (lifting torque), maximum/minimum amplitude, maximum lifting height, structural type, amplitude change method, tower cross-sectional dimensions, etc.

 Tower crane hoisting characteristics

① The boom is installed on the upper part of the tower, so the effective lifting height and working range are relatively large, which is a common feature of various types of tower cranes.

② High lifting efficiency and stable operation.

③ The use period of tower cranes at a construction site is generally longer. After a project is completed, it needs to be dismantled, transferred, moved, and then installed at a new construction site. It is more troublesome than general construction machinery and has stricter requirements.

④ Tower cranes are mostly operated outdoors at construction sites. The conditions are different from those indoors, and the machinery must be lubricated, cleaned and maintained.
5.1.2 Tower crane installation method

(1) Rotation installation

This method uses the tower crane's own hoisting winch and boom to install it by self-rotation and lifting (when lifting the tower, the boom is used as an installation mast).

①Use a truck crane to set the installation parts of the tower crane on the track, then assemble the tower body and the boom, and connect them to the traveling frame (gantry).

②Set the ground anchor and rigging, and lift the boom to the installation position.

③Tighten the boom lifting rope to rotate the tower body to a certain angle, and install the counterweight cantilever on the upper part of the tower body.

④Continue to tighten the boom lifting rope to vertically erect the tower body and fix it on the traveling frame (gantry) (during the process of erecting the tower body, the tower body needs to be stabilized with a rope).

⑤Install ballast on the traveling frame (gantry) and the counterweight.

⑥Remove the boom and lift it to a vertical position.

⑦Lift the boom to the working position and install the lifting wire rope.

(2) Safe installation method

Use a motorized crane to assemble the base frame (or gantry), place the weight, and then install the tower body (including the sleeve frame, transition section for self-erecting tower cranes), balance arm, lifting arm, etc.

(3) Heightening of the tower body of a self-erecting tower crane

Here we only introduce the jacking process of the attached self-erecting tower crane. The lifting of the attached self-erecting tower crane is carried out according to the several processes shown in Figure 5-2 using the hydraulic system.

①Preparation before jacking. Determine the jacking height, lift the standard section onto the ferry trolley 8, remove the bolts connecting the original tower body and the sleeve frame, check and adjust the position of the hydraulic cylinder, roller, etc., connect the power supply of the hydraulic pump motor, and prepare for jacking.

②Jack the sleeve frame and the upper tower top structure. Start the oil pump to allow high-pressure oil to enter the upper part of the hydraulic cylinder. The oil circuit at the lower part of the hydraulic cylinder is connected to the oil circuit of the oil return tank. The sleeve and the upper structure are lifted up and raised to a height exceeding one standard section (generally 3.3m). The sleeve is locked with a positioning pin. At this time, all the weight above the sleeve is transmitted to the tower body by the positioning pin.

③ Introduce the standard section into the tower body. First retract the piston rod of the hydraulic jack to form an introduction space, and then drive the ferry trolley 8 with the standard section 7 into the introduction space.

④ Install the tower body and connect the standard section. Use the hydraulic jack to slightly lift the standard section, exit the ferry trolley, and then press the standard section with the piston rod to smoothly drop it onto the tower body below, and connect them with bolts.

⑤ Pull out the positioning pin 6, lower the lifting sleeve 1, connect the transition section with the new standard section and the tower body as a whole, and then you can carry out new lifting and hoisting work.

If you want to connect several standard sections at a time, repeat the lifting process from ① to ⑤
